Innovative collaboration brings impactful education solutions to students, meets needs of manufacturing, strengthens local communities

LAKE GENEVA, Wis.(October 16, 2014) – Trostel, a custom rubber molding and compounding company, recently launched a manufacturing youth apprenticeship program in cooperation with GPS Education Partners by providing learning space and apprenticeship training to high school students at its operations in Whitewater and Lake Geneva, Wis., beginning in September.

In Wisconsin, many manufacturers struggle to find skilled labor as part of the state’s well documented “skills gap.” For Wisconsin this is especially problematic because per capita, Wisconsin is the No. 1 state nationwide for manufacturing jobs. Trostel is taking a proactive approach to this issue by partnering with GPS, a non-profit organization that provides immersive work-based education programs. This innovative collaboration benefits students, meets the needs of manufacturing and serves to strengthen local communities where Trostel does business.

“Collaborating with GPS is more than an investment in our business and industry,” says Steve Dyer, president and CEO at Trostel. “This is an investment in our students and the communities
we serve. Education is key to helping our community’s youth to be successful in their future careers and in their lives. We are delighted to open the door to this program and proud to be a
partner in this important initiative.”

In support of the program, Trostel provides the following:

  • Classroom space– Donates classroom space that is exclusive to GPS classroom learning, serving 17 students
  • Real-world training– Trains three youth apprentices as part of the program’s business rotation model, teaching students a variety of manufacturing job skills and exposing them to career opportunities in the manufacturing sector in real-work environments
  • Training support– Contributes key learning materials including a projector, dry erase board, and other essential classroom learning materials

“We are grateful to have business and community partners like Trostel who share our passion and vision for providing innovative pathways to help students succeed, and help local businesses and communities thrive,” says Stephanie Borowski, president of GPS Education Partners.
